Let's learn "How to introduce yourself in Mongolian"
What’s the first thing you need to do when you meet someone new? Introduce yourself of course! To do this you will at the very least be able to say your name in Mongolian Language. This quick lesson will help you learn how to introduce yourself in Mongolian, your name and where you are from. Also we have added some relevant vocabulary such as countries, nationalities and languages.
The most basic way to introduce yourself is as follows:
Миний нэр ____________________ (your name).
Ex: Миний нэр Болдоо. (My name is Boldoo)
(Minii ner Boldoo)
You can then follow up by adding where you are from:
Би _____(country)___[aac]4 ирсэн. ⇒[aac]4 is the ablative case (English: from, of)
Би Америк-аас ирсэн. ⇒[aac]4 = (аас/ээс/ooс/өөс) depends on vowel harmony
(I am from America.)
(Bi Amerikaas irsen.)
Which [aac]4 to use??
Use -аас if the word has the vowels: a, у, я
Use -ээс if the word has the vowels: э, и, ү, е
Use -ooс if the word has the vowel o
Use -өөс if the word has the vowel ө
That’s vowel harmony in Mongolian Language!
Examples:
Би Монголоос ирсэн. Bi Mongoloos irsn. I am from Mongolia.
Би Америкаас ирсэн. Bi Amerikaas irsn I am from America.
Би Германаас ирсэн. Bi Germanaas irsn. I am from Germany.
Another way to say your Nationality
Би _____(country)______ хүн. ⇒ хүн = person
Би Герман хүн.
Bi _______German______ hun. (I am German.)
Би Монгол хүн. Bi Mongol hun. I am Mongolian.
Би Америк хүн Bi Amerik hun. I am American.
Би Герман хүн. Bi German hun. I am German.
Now let`s put it all together and introduce ourselves!
“Сайн байна уу? Миний нэр Болдоо, Би Монголоос ирсэн. Би Монгол хүн.”
Breakdown:
Sain bain u? Minii ner Boldoo. Bi Mongoloos irsn. Bi Mongol hun.

What about you, what’s your name? Where are you from?
Сайн байна уу? Миний нэр ___________, Би ___________[aac]4 ирсэн. Би _________ хүн!

Bi ____________________ hung. Then you can say country name and the word hun which means person. like
Би Монгол хүн. Bi Mongol hung. I am Mongolian.
Би Америк хүн Bi Amerik hung. I am Mongolian.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for bringing that up! We really appreciate it. We are working on editing some of the pages that were created a few years ago before we really started updating and modernizing the website. We have lots of work to do, but our staff are up to the challenge! Feel free to continue to submit feedback, or if you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask!
